This track leverages the power of the humanities to broaden and deepen students’ insight into the human condition through the study of other cultural perspectives with the aim of creating better informed, more empathetic and culturally proficient graduates, able to engage intelligently in 世界文化 and issues

的 人文学科 minor offers six areas of emphasis:

  • 有一点需要强调 世界文化.
  • 另一个重点是 古代和中世纪研究.
  • 另一个重点是 环境人文学科.
  • 另一个重点是 电影及电影研究.
  • 另一个重点是 人文在线.

  • 另一个重点是 宗教研究.

While the factual content of 人文学科 courses ranges widely in subject matter, all courses emphasize a distinct set of broadly useful skills. Among these are the ability to express one’s ideas in a clear, 有组织的, 合理的, grammatically correct manner in speech, 写作, new media; to think critically and analyze texts; to make arguments and present them effectively; to understand context (how 历史 and culture shape us); to recognize and appreciate nuance and complexity of meaning; and to understand and appreciate cultural diversity.

Designed to provide a broader understanding of interdisciplinary contexts, a major or minor in the 人文学科 complements other courses of study. Besides being a natural accompaniment to majors or minors in History, 哲学, 英语, 法国, 德语或西班牙语, as well as First Nations Studies, 艺术管理, 剧院, Women’s and Gender Studies, a degree in 人文学科 also enhances majors and minors in business, 教育, 社会工作, 社会科学, 自然科学, 还有美术.

In conjunction with other courses of study, a 人文学科 major or minor is an excellent preparation for many graduate programs in the humanities and in law, 医学或工程学. 的 general intellectual skills emphasized in 人文学科 courses and the flexibility and versatility they impart help graduates succeed in today’s rapidly changing, increasingly global job market, where specific factual knowledge can quickly become outdated. 的 two of the most common career paths of 人文学科 majors are in the fields of 教育 and business, but the skills acquired by 人文学科 students are applicable to nearly any career.

学生 may also study abroad at other campuses across the globe and in the United States through UW-绿湾’s participation in international exchange programs and the National Student Exchange. A wide selection of internships in the humanities and travel courses led by 人文学科 are another option for obtaining academic credits and completing requirements.
